One year ago, I determined to capture the Post-it note pieces of my life that, when placed together, form my life’s story. This year, Laura Tremaine at Hollywood Housewife hosted her annual One Day event again, and I couldn’t wait to join!
The goal is simple: Capture details of your life that make it what it is. Your nightstand, your makeup bag, your commute, your desktop. Anything you normally wouldn’t photograph, you now have a reason to do so. Because this is “One Day.” And in one day, you receive a glimpse of your life, in those small moments, for 24 hours.
This is my life through my scope on November 13, 2013. This is my story of 24 hours that I may not have otherwise noted, but now have found meaningful even in the mundane.
This is my One Day, 2013 style.

6:30 a.m. I start the day with The Ultimate Blueberry and Banana Breakfast Smoothie, recipe by Deliciously Ella.
These are my go-to beauty products these days. I love the Urban Decay’s Naked 2 eye shadow palette for a sophisticated natural look.
7:20 a.m. Ready for the day! Well, just about. Now to get those tired peepers more awake with some rockin’ music on the way to work.
7:25 a.m. Shoe choice for the day: classic black flats with gold studs.
8:00 a.m. I pull my car into the parking lot at work and find a spot.
8:02 a.m. I step out of the elevator and into the Communications Department. My team manages this bilingual magazine (English-Spanish) and its missions-minded accompaniment.
8:05 a.m. In my office, I love this view! I’m definitely a big fan of windows. My big task today: Procure a video from our disaster relief team in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan.
One of my coworkers posted this to my monitor last month. It makes me smile every time.
9:00a.m. In honor of Veteran’s Day this week, I’m posting about our organization’s military chaplains. This awesome woman inspires me, and others too, big time!
11:45a.m. Dr. Leslie Keegel, visiting from Sri Lanka, delivers a powerful message: “Do the best with the little you have.” I’ve been feeling like I don’t have much to give lately. This encouragement is what I needed.
3:49p.m. All afternoon, I’ve worked on the magazine, news stories, and video updates. Here’s a sneak peek, featuring Tammy Toft’s work to care for women in Estonian brothels.
4:40p.m. Time to go home! I’m leaving work a little late today.
4:50 p.m. Outside, the sun is setting. I may miss Nevada sunsets, but I’ll never tire of palm trees.
5:30 p.m. By the time I arrive at my apartment complex, it’s dark. This looks scarier than it is.
5:45 p.m. Anthony, my husband, is sick. He’s been in bed almost all week. I spare the bearded warrior from being photographed.
Here’s your Anthony photo. We’re still working on hanging up our frames and artwork after the move to LA from Reno. (Hey, eight months goes by fast!)
6:00p.m. In the epic darkness outside, I step onto the balcony (which overlooks my neighbors’ balconies). Hey, anybody have a cure for powdery mildew on my zucchini plants?
6:30p.m. Ingredients, meet the challenger! Anthony is the cook in our family. With him asleep with the flu, it’s my turn to tackle the kitchen. Mission accepted.
7:00 p.m. Voila! One of two recipes I have mastered! Rice cakes with feta and fruits (or are they veggies?) for dinner.
8:00 p.m. I plop onto the couch to catch the next episode of CHUCK, season 2. I know, it’s an older show. But I love the Nerd Herd!
I arrange this little guy, Ewok, for a funny photo and “Get Well Soon” message to send a fellow Star Wars friend.
9:00 p.m. Comfy clothes is where it’s at. As are attempted selfies.
9:05 p.m. I head over to our home office area, complete with this “Ode to Las Vegas” photo frame that a coworker made me in 2009. I love my hometown!
9:15p.m. Tonight, at my desk, it’s Winter Dream Tea a la Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. And, yes, I love books, just like Belle!
9:30 p.m. Blogging time! I don’t have the umph to write anything, but I read all my favorite blogs: Stuff Christians Like by Jon Acuff (tongue-in-cheek goodness!!), Holly Gerth, Hollywood Housewife and more.
9:46 p.m. A friend sends me this awesomeness. What Lord of the Rings character are you? Based on Meyers-Briggs Personality Test, I’m King Theoden (ENTJ). #winning
9:50p.m. Back in the bedroom, I drop off my watch here. Some very good friends gave me this jewelry stand when I moved from Reno.
10:00p.m. I’m really thinking about this passage a lot lately. How do you live with so much love? I don’t have the full answer, but I’m working on it. I really like the possibilities the more I think about it.
10:22p.m. This is the last thing I see before I turn off the lights. Then I’ll curl up beneath a blanket and turn to face a certain bearded guy with a wedding ring that matches mine.
Wondering what my life looked like last year? Check it out here: One Day 2012.
Thanks for joining in my One Day!
