Writing is a lot like catching a butterfly. You can run around all day swinging at it, yet grasp nothing. But if you sit tight and stay calm, it might just land on your hand and stay a while.
Today I’m glad I caught my butterfly.

I like your description. It does feel like that sometimes.
The saying at the top of my blog came about two years ago while staring at a blank page. I then typed “What is Writing” after a short time I’d come up with the following statement. It helped me get past the blank page.
A writer looks at a screen or piece of paper like a blank canvas. They see a country unexplored, a picture unpainted, a tale not told. They dare to venture into the barren land, explore its dark corners, paint its pictures, and then unveil the epic with the goal of compelling people to visit their newly discovered territory.
I knew I wanted to use it when I started my blog.
I like this concept a lot, Peter. It’s so true that writing can, like art, require we make something of nothing with that blank canvas. Also writing, like a journey, takes us to unexplored territory, the “barren land” as you’ve said.
It’s encouraging to think the goal is to unveil the epic, tell the tale, and invite others to discover what you’re discovering. I’m going to think more on that idea!
